Curfews and Looking at Trees

6:40 am. I wake up in a panic as the sound of Eric’s alarm blares through the room. Today might be the day he actually goes for a morning run – or maybe not, as I watch him turn his phone off and crawl back into bed.

8:23 am. After four missed alarms, it’s Joey’s Central Cee shower playlist that finally wakes me. I rush out of bed, turning the thermostat from 62 to 74 before Eric realizes that it has been changed. As I walked out of my room, it dawned on me that leaving Pinon at 8:55 may have been a bit too ambitious. Sprinting to Dominici like an overlapping Kyle Walker, I arrived at 9:00, interrupting a brief talk on participants’ tardiness and a planned 12:30 am curfew.

A Dr Le physics lecture soon got underway, in which we were tasked with estimating the heights of various palm trees outside the classroom by approximating our distances to the trees and the angles formed from the base to the top. Following a review of ancient Greek astronomy and some astrophysical objects, we headed to lunch.

I vaguely remember going over the method of Gauss in our afternoon lecture with Dr Rengstorf. The material was probably quite important, but I was preoccupied as I lamented over Lamine Yamal’s 86th minute assist on Sunday to win Spain the final. England may not have won the Euros this year, but it’s coming home in 2026.

The next hour started with an attempt at Astro Pset 3 with my teammates Claire and Shreyas, but it quickly descended into a series of Clash Royale games, bringing Shreyas’ overall win/loss record to 13-32. After a short-lived moment of hard work, we ran over to Corbett for dinner, arriving in good time at 5:29:47. I spent the evening grinding through Astro 3 and the OD code, before heading back to the dorms with Shreyas. I re-learnt some of Rachmaninoff’s Etudes-Tableaux in the games room for half an hour, before finally heading to my room for the night.
