This morning, I made the executive decision to not attend breakfast so that I could read in bed, instead choosing to eat a granola bar and apple from the comfort of my dorm. After I packed my bag the same way I do every morning— notebook, pencil, water bottle, and sunscreen— I started the trek to the Biology Annex, sun beating down on my face, and a “Summer Chill Mix” blasting in my ears.
The morning lecture today was “Stellar Deaths and Black Holes” given by Dr. Draghis. Based on my observations of class engagement, this was definitely a fan favorite; it sparked much curiosity and many questions in everyone. I thoroughly enjoyed it as well, and I think that black holes are definitely the most fascinating thing in the universe. Once the clock struck twelve though, we dashed to the dining hall, stomachs grumbling as we sped walked. My choice of lunch today was rice with pork. After an exorbitant amount of salt and hot sauce, it tasted quite fantastic.
In the afternoon, we had a Zoom writing workshop with Dr. Andersen. I was able to gain a lot of insight on scientific writing and its purpose. The class was also able to put the new information we learned to practice, all in preparation for our final report due in just over a week!
After a dinner of rice and fish in the dining hall, I headed back to the classroom and worked with my group on getting asteroid measurements from all of our data. It was all tiring work, but my bag filled with snacks and caffeinated drinks helped me pull through. At midnight, I packed my bag and headed back to my dorms for sweet slumber. All in all, it was another great day at SSP!
