Hey everyone, my name is Eric and I’m from Livingston, New Jersey. Here is what my
Saturday (7/13) looked like at IU Biochemistry.
Dr. Hollenbeck had mercy on us when she left the morning clear of lectures or lab, giving us
freedom before the Indy 11 soccer game tonight. I am someone that likes to structure my free
days, so I woke up at 8:30 to start my day. I had some apple cinnamon oatmeal for breakfast
which was very refreshing from my typical weekday breakfast of garlic bread pizza hot pockets
(the undisputed best hot pocket flavor). Around 9 I started my laundry, which I have finally
figured out the number system for. With my laundry running, I went outside to the patio to get a
calisthenic workout in. Without any equipment I was forced to rely on free weight exercises,
something I am very unused to. At 10 I came back inside to complete my individual and team
reflections. It took us about an hour to finish our reflections so we just hung out in the basement
until 1. We had lunch at Read Hall where I had some pretty solid Greek food. After lunch we
explored some IU campus buildings and returned back to the dorms at 2:30 to work on our final
presentations. At 3:30 we piled onto the bus to head to Indianapolis for the Indy 11 game. We
arrived around five and practiced carrying out the team flag onto the field. Along the way to our
seats, we stopped at a tent to say hi to two giant support mastiffs from the local vet. They were
super slobbery and playful dogs. With about an hour before kickoff, we bought hotdogs that
were honestly pretty disappointing and relaxed in the shade. At 7 we carried the massive team
flag onto the field during pregame ceremonies which was a first for me. The turnout for the
game was solid; maybe a few thousand showed up. The first half was chippy, physical, and
scoreless. At half I went with friends for some food. I got a BBQ beef brisket sandwich that was
definitely better than the hot dog. The second half brought a lot more action—both Loudoun and
Indy scored back to back in a span of ten minutes. The last fifteen minutes of the game went
back and forth, but it ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw. It was disappointing to not see Indy secure
the win, but the game included many memorable plays and moments. After the game we
hopped onto the bus and arrived back at Goodbody at 10:30. Overall, it was a restful,
productive, and fun day. I’m ready for a day at the park tomorrow.
